Rose Festival Weekend

I had totally forgotten that this weekend is the 100th Rose Festival here in Portland.  I have to admit, I have never lived anyplace (including near Tyler, Texas) that grows such gorgeous roses.  They just practically grow themselves, it’s amazing.

The Rose Festival brings with it a myriad of tourists that flood downtown.  When I say flood, I seriously  mean flood as in overflowing with human bodies.  I lived down there last year, so I didn’t know any better, this year I am wiser.   I stayed home or only ventured out into my suburb.  Heck, even Beaverton Towne Squre wasn’t busy or heavy bumper to bumper as usual!

We did the grocery thing.  Um, speaking on a postive note, it was very nice and cool inside the grocery store. (See, you can find something nice to say about something!). We also stopped at the Franklin Covey store so I could get my planner pages (my year runs July to June). After that it was Olive Garden for a yummy salad and then home.

P took the fur babies to the doggie park to let them romp a bit.   Templar is getting a bit rowdy, puppy + Border Coller = lots of energy! Due to that equation, doggie park it was!

I discovered today after many years of shopping at Joann’s that there is an optimum time to go there.  Apparently, Saturday night at 8pm is the prime time to go there.  I think there were more employees in the store than customers.  It was fantastic, let me tell you! No screaming kids, no pissy moms, no fighting down aisles to get to anything, just me and all that lovely yarn and fabric. I was able to peruse to my hearts content!  I had to pick up batting because P needs a notebook sleeve for his computer.  I’m going to make one for him tomorrow and needed batting because it needs to be padded.  I think it’s going to be purple because that is what I have in a huge quantity. Besides, he loves the color, so why not?  It’s nothing fancy, just something to slip his computer into so he can slip that into his backpack.

So, tomorrow is my sewing day.  Since it is wardrobe refashion month one, this might qualify as refashioning or repurposing.  This fabric was intended to be a “ritual dress” for a sabbat, but never made it.  Oh well, it will be getting a good home with the notebook.  Besides, I have like a thousand yards or it or so.

I’m also going to sit down and sketch out what I think the “perfect knitting bag” should look like.  As Lana has discovered, I’m rather picky about things like pockets, straps, closures, feet on the bag, the height of the bag, the length of the bag.  About the only thing I’m not picky about is the fabric! LOL!  Sheesh.

I’m having serious trouble with my fricking granny square for my crocheting.  That sob refuses to cooperate no matter how many time I do it!  I hate those things.  I think I’ll stick to non granny squares if you don’t mind!

I’m off to make Fettucini Alfredo and lobster cakes for dinner.  Damn, I forgot bread crumbs at the grocers.  Oh well, next week will suffice for tuna cakes.

Wonder if lana is online to chat?
