Knitting Needles, not just for knitting
We were watching a movie from the 70’s named “Foul Play” today, starring Chevy Chase and Goldie Hawn. I had never seen the whole movie, hence the recording and watching of it.
There is a scene were Goldie is sitting at home in her apartment and she is knitting. Totally cool to see knitting in a movie from that era. A few scenes later, the bad guy breaks into her apartment and the struggle ensues. As she maneuvers over to her “knitting chair”, I clearly saw where it was going. Sure enough, she got him with them. My first thought was “you go girl”, then my next thought” damn, now she will need new needles”! Muahahahaha P thinks I need therapy.
Knitting needles are weapons of protection, implements to fashion clothing and make damned good backscratchers in a pinch. Nothing like a 14″ size 6 to reach that itch in the middle of your back!
Tonight, I started re-reading “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix”. As usual, it’s good. I’ve not read it in a couple of years and it’s fun going back through it. I figured I should re-read it as the movie is coming out and I know they are going to skip tons of bits in it. Better to be prepared with back story so that I won’t get lost in the movie. And, per my “re-read” this summer of the Harry Potter series, I’m reading the UK versions. Can’t help it, the language is way better in them. For Yule this year, I want the entire boxed set of the UK Adult Version for myself.
P and I were discussing that this evening. Both he and I have lived in the UK and we both agreed that the UK versions of books are better for some reason. It’s almost like the publisher’s “dumb” down the American versions for some reason? He even noted that some versions are even longer in the UK versions than the American ones. I have no idea, but I do tend to get the UK versions of books that I want to be “keepers” in our library.
Wow, how pompous of me, “our library”. Hahahahaha…at the moment, it’s two measley bookstands, but I do have over thirty boxes in storage. I can’t wait till Ikea opens, I can get bookstands for my books and bring them home to live! Sigh…I do love my books. P has promised me a full library once we settle finally. I can have a whole room for nothing but books and books and books. Sigh, it’s a lovely idea. I would never leave it, just me, our books and my knitting! One of these days, just one of these days.
Quiet Sundays are the best!
Today it’s been nothing but watching movies and knitting! I have watched several movies and gotten a bit knitted on the sweater I’m attempting. I’ve never knitted a sweater “not in the round”, so this will be interesting. I have to admit, it’s way smaller to carry about. I cast on for it yesterday (KIP at Noah’s, thank you). I’m about seven inches into the front of it. Not using any fancy yarn, just plain old Red Heart that I had stored. I wanted to sort of do a “test” sweater first. I figure it will be good to layer over a tshirt this winter, besides, I’m thinking it will soften up as it’s washed (with fabric softener added). If it turns out well, I’m going to save up and get some “tweed” type yarn from Knit Picks and make a true Weasley Sweater. I loved those sweaters in the movies, they just looked so warm and cozy. One can always use a warm and cozy sweater, right?
I’m hoping to order some yarn from KP in order to start on Yule gifts, sometime near the end of July. I need to get cracking on Yule knitting sometime in August I think. That will give me plenty of time to get stuff knitted.
