Fleecy Dreams

It’s all about the crafty!

Yawn….

Hmmm, it’s my second morning today.  I woke up early in order to drive P to the airport because he’s too good to ride the train because it takes 1.5 hours to get from here to the airport.  Now, tell me, who wouldn’t mind 1.5 hours of their day where no one was calling them, no kids bugging them, that whole time to do nothing but read, knit or listen to music?  Not him, apparently. Templar enjoyed the drive, he loves to go in the car.  He actually travels very, very well.  I’m kind of surprised at it. I do try to take him as many places as I can though, part of his socializing program.

So, I came home and went back to bed. Now, I’m up the second time.   I have a lot to do today, but don’t feel like doing it at all.  I have some laundry to do, that has to be done. I would love to finish up the back piece on the current WIP and get started on the front.  So, between laundry and knitting, I think I’m doing a light dinner with little or no cooking involved.  I know I need to run to the grocers and pick up milk and eggs.  There is nothing like cold tuna salad on a hot day!  With P gone all week, it’s strictly sandwiches and chips for me!  No pots and pans to clean, no dishes to wash, no standing over a hot stove…it so rocks!   Now, does everyone totally get why six month deployments weren’t that bad? Hahahahahaha

Old Navy wives are the only ones that truly understand the six monther.  Yes, for six months you have the watch. But, for six months, there is one less body in the house and one less body to clean up after.  You and the kids can have sandwiches or burgers every single night and no complaints.  You totally control the remote. One of my close friends had what she called the “watch bill”, meaning what happened when hubby wasn’t home.  The kids each did their own laundry, each had their own day.  One kid did the yard work, another did the floors and vacumning.  My friend did the kitchen and the dusting and the shopping.  She said their house actually ran smoother when he wasn’t home than when he was home.  It was hilarious.  She actually counted down the days till the ship left! I used to roll laughing at her.  Dont’ get me wrong, she loved her husband, but with the in and out that is involved with being in the fleet, the house was always in an uproar. Is Daddy home? If he is, do I ask him or do I ask mom?

So, while P is going during the week, I don’t really cook, I hoover daily, the laundry gets done on a daily basis and not where it takes all day to it on a weekend. I control the remote to the big screen and I can have absolute silence if I want it.  I love silence, I love listening to nothing.  Like Crazy Aunt Purl said, I think the noise in my head is enough, I don’t need outside noise to help along with it.

As for now, I’m going to go make some tea, have some toast and see what my Sims can get up to.  Housework in my house does not start till 2pm in the afternoon!  I’m more of an afternoon/early evening/evening/late night kind of girl.

The “Almost A Weasley Sweater

As soon as I get home from work, I’m going to post a picture of the thing so far.  Although it was supposed to be a “practice” piece, I think I might actually end up wearing it.  It would be great for the doggie park or for when I have to do  “rounds” in the evenings.  It’s definitely not my normal style as the yarn was actually supposed to originally have been a rug! Hahaha..yeah, it’s very striking! LOL

I’ll probably get some knitted on it tonight.  I have a few things on the Tivo to get caught up on and recorded, so that is always dedicated knitting time in my book.

I feel bad now that I made it into “the club” over on Ravelry, because there are literally over 6,000 more people waiting to get on.  So, in honor of them, I’m not discussing it here, yet.  I’ll wait till some of my buddies are there with me and then we can dish all about it.

It’s rather chilly here today.  I think P is doing up a pork roast tonight for dinner.  The great thing about me working on weekends…he cooks! Hooray!  I’ll do dinners during the week and he gets the weekends.  I’ll probably also end up baking again this week, although he’ll be gone most of it.

We also need to put tyres on his little car.  I called for an estimate yesterday and it’s a grand total of 155.12..yeah, that’s for all four tyres too!  I was dying laughing over that.  My Jeep tyres were about that for just one!  Oh, how I love small cars, they save on gas and tyres.  So, the little car has an appointment next Saturday.  I would take it in before then, but I’m afraid to drive the thing…it has an unsyncronized transmission….don’t ask, it’s a bitch to drive though, although he does quite well with it?

School starts up on the 25th, I’m quite pleased about that.  Although, I’m going to have to miss the 10th, 11, 12, 13th and 16th…that might make a dent in my grade, but I’ll just take it with me.  Goddess knows, I’ll have plenty of time to study in the car, I can’t knit all the way to Ohio..I do have to take a break from it occasionally. My writing I’m not worried about as it’s online anyways.  I’ll just use the laptop in the car and muddle through as best I can.

It’s also someone’s birthday coming up in July….like on the 9th!  Ms. Lana!!!!  Yes, she will probably kill me for reminding everyone, but I like to make a big deal out of it.  She is one of my bestests friends and I think her birthday is sort of like a holiday!  She and I are going fabric shopping and she gets to pick out whatever she wants (yes, they have yarn there as well).  I was trying to branch out this year, as I ALWAYS get her yarn for her birthday.  I thought I would be new this year and get fabric? LOL  I also have a surprise for her as well, one that she doesn’t know about…and I’m keeping my mouth shut about it.  This year, IT’S REALLY GOING TO BE A SURPRISE!

As you can see, it’s rather quiet here at the office today.  I’m about ready to go out and make my rounds (again).  I like to walk through and see and be seen.  Plus, I hate when people leave trash around, it bugs me.  So, I figured I would walk around and pick up the major trash that is laying around.  Why are people such pigs?  Were they raised in a barn or it is that they feel it’s public area so someone else will get it?  What happens if there isn’t a someone else?  Sigh.  Oh, don’t get me started on cigarette butts….I would love to be able to trace dna through these things and make the owners eat the damned things.  Next question?  Why are smoker’s such pigs?  They leave the damned things everywhere and I don’t even want to hear they are biodegradeable…yes, but it takes a few years…do you want to look at them for that long?

Finally!!!!!

I had totally forgotten all about Ravelry!!! They were so deluged with “helpers” that they are EXTREMELY backlogged on getting people signed up. I finally got my invitation today and IT’S SOOOO WORTH THE WAIT! I love the thing, already.

I had to laugh, there is a “stash” organizer. It’s going to take me a month solid to get my stash input!!!! LOL..but I’m going to give it a try that’s for sure. It has a feature to list all the books you have (a fabulous feature because I can never remember what I have!). There is a place for you to list your needles. Once I have everything entered, I can definitely see using it for beginning projects and such. I definitely will have to photograph more and be a bit more industrious in making sure everything is documented. I needed to do that anyway! LOL.

So, after I get off tonight, I’m going to sit down and try to get my needles and book listed up. The yarn stash won’t happen till this week, P will be gone so I can pull ALL my yarn out and inventory it! Whoo Hoo…who knows what treasures I have lurking around this house? Hahahahaha

Oh yeah, on Ravelry, I’m “Fleecy” if you wanna look me up.

Some Knitting Was Accomplished, finally!

Whew, I finally had a few minutes to sit down and get some knitting done.  It’s been a few days since that happened. Sometimes, I wonder about myself.

I used to work 40 to 50 hours a week, spend approx. 15 hours a week commuting, clean my house, cook meals, do laundry, take care of the dogs, run errands and still had a life.  In the last three days, I worked a measly six hours daily, had no commute, ran errands, cleaned house, took care of the dogs, did laundry and managed to run out of time to do anything else.

When did I lose the ability to function at what by today’s standards is a normal pace?  Have I gotten old or have I just gotten lazy?  I have a 1200 square foot abode. With three people and three animals living in it, it shouldn’t take more than two hours max to clean it. Okay, so that is two hours of the day.  My job is six hours a day, check. I have no commute. Laundry is 30 minutes to wash and 60 minutes to dry (time that can be used for something else as well).  If I’m not slow cooking something, dinner should take no more than an hour to fix and 30 minutes to eat?  Clean up, no more than 20 minutes max (I clean as I go).  So, why am I running out of time for things like reading or knitting or sewing?  I just don’t get it?

Personally, I think I’ve gotten lazy. Which hopefully, I’ll manage to get out of, because school starts on the 25th, so then I will have school, homework, work and household stuff to do.

On the plus side, I scored a new mattress set!!!!!  Our current set was purchased back in 1997 and was a “low-end” set as it was.  We have a huge king sized sleigh bed that takes the largest king sized mattresses there are.  Hey, I love my bed, there is room for everyone on it!  But, those mattresses are pretty pricey.  My boss’s grandmother had purchased a brand new 3,200 mattress set and then just when they got delivered, she took ill and they were never used.  They are still in the plastic!!!  I’m buying them for 350.00!!!  I about fell over when she told me about them.  Heck, yeah!  They are the comfy plushy ones with the 20 year warranty and all.    I’m quite excited, let me tell you!  That is a bargain in anyone’s book.

I had no “goals” for June.  By goals, I mean one household improvement, a major improvement, like a sofa or an a/c.  June had nothing, but now it has it’s mattress set. I try to sit down and figure out what needs to be “repaired” “fluffed” or just replaced and then spread it out over the year.  Somethings have to be saved up for, while others are quick fixes.  Everyone says I’m spoiled, but you know, I really do save up for stuff.  I’ll wait years for something if I really want it bad enough.  I waited ten years for my Jeep and then drove it for ten years.  I always says, “if I want something bad enough, I’ll get it.  It might be five or so years, but I’ll get it”.

For instance, I’ve been wanting to go to Disneyworld for almost thirteen years now.  I haven’t made it yet, but I will, you watch.  I never give up on something if I really want it.  I just have faith and it will happen, eventually.

Oh well, time for breakfast and then off to work.  I have a full and busy day ahead of me on that aspect.

New Jobs Totally Rock!

There is so much paperwork with the new job, good think I excel in paperwork. Tomorrow is my third day of training and then Saturday, the office is all mine for the entire weekend! I’m kind of nervous, but heck, I can always just take a message and let my boss deal with it on Monday.

My allergies are in full bloom to the point that an allergy tablet isn’t helping much. I take the absolute strongest thing on the planet for them, so it’s not like I can take something stronger. Anything stronger and I’ll be unconcious.

I’ve also decided that for Yule this year, I want a MAC. I absolutely love Safari and I’ve decided to bite the bullet and get a Mac. Now, will it be a macbook or a desktop model? I’m leaning towards a desktop model??? Not sure. I’ll cross that bridge when I get there. I have plenty of time to think about the pros and cons of both of them. I’m not sure I want to give up my pc because this bad boy runs like a top and is as fast as it can be semi overlocked to go. I have a lovely 22″ monitor on it which I simply adore. So, we will see what happens come December.

I still haven’t decided which days off during the week I want yet? I’m still leaning towards Monday and Tuesday, though.

P is loving the new job. He’s due out next week to travel again. He likes to travel, gets a kick out of it. Doesn’t bother me or the dogs, so everyone is happy.

I also found out that a good friend of mine is moving a mere 500 miles away from me sometime this year. She will be totally driveable then! Yippee! That will be totally fun. It wont’ be like she’s across town, but at least she will be visitable if effort is made.

Nothing else going on, it’s a rather nice summer evening. I might go dig through my books and see if there is something else to read. I’ve read everything I’ve got. Me thinks that next week will need a visit to the bookstore. I should make up a wish list for next week.

Day One on the job!

All in all, it wasn’t a bad day!  There is quite alot of paperwork involved, plus a lot of stuff that hasn’t been moved to the computers that will need to be done.  The commute was fabulous!  I got to take a couple of breaks to come home and let the babies out.  I created our apartment July newsletter, showed an apartment and took alot of notes.

Tomorrow, it will be more hands on for me and then Friday will be more of going around to each of the buildings and figuring out where things are and who is where.  They came to completely fill in our pool today.  Quite the sad thing, actually.  The good news is that they are considering making it into a fenced “leashless” area for people to take their dogs to for some running off the leash.  I voted for it, thank you.  There will be benches and water supply and even a place to “hose” down your dog afterwards.  I think that will be great in the summer heat and all.

I also found out that we have a sauna here!!!  It’s for the employees only, which rocks.  Apparently, the manager’s house used to be the recreation area and was kind of a clubhouse with a pool table, the pool, sauna and such.  Over the years, it’s just been given over to staff bit by bit.  First the clubhouse went, then the sauna/bathroom and now the pool.  There really isn’t much here as far as amenities go except for lots of parking and room for pets and a kids common area.  Well, that and it’s close to almost everything and has public transportation at the front entrance with it’s own bus stop.  Soon we will be within walking distance of the trimet (yippee!).

Dinner tonight will be Wendy’s!  It’s too hot to cook, too late to get something defrosted (okay, I forgot this morning) so, eating out it is.

I have to hoover the living room and give the kitchen a mopping.  Someone last night partied downstairs and let a mess that needs to be cleaned up.  Hmmm, wonder who that would be?  He’s somewhat not happy with me at the moment, I put him in his kennel this morning and went to work, came home, let him out and put him back in.  He’s less than thrilled at the moment.  It’s only for a few days and then I’ll be home more during the day.  Pretty soon, he will be getting an evening walk as I will take him with me to lock up the laundry rooms at night.  He’s such the party animal, I swear!

I’m a browser whore!

Yes, I freely admit, I’m a browser whore, there I said it!  I can be tempted away from my fave browser at the mere drop of a promise of more speed or better toys.  I’m cheap, what can I say?My newest toy is Safari for Windows!  Good goddess, is this thing fast!  I have never seen pages load this fast in my life.  Okay, I have seen them load this fast but they were stored on my computer and I was testing them before loading them up to the net. It’s far from perfect, I have had two crashes so far, but I’m figuring it’s relatively new and probably still has a few bugs (like all new products).  I love the speed, I love the whole “cleanliness” of it and I simply adore the fact it’s from Apple and it’s running on my Windows based pc.  I know, I should just take the plunge and get a Mac.  I would but, there are so many programs I have that won’t run on a Mac.  I’m contemplating a mac as a “second” computer to run alongside my pc.  The very first computer I owned on my own was a Mac.  It was way back in the dinosaur days, as in the late 1980’s!  I loved that thing.  It was the very first computer that I played SimCity on.  Yeah, that’s how old it was, the program was simply Sim City.  I had to have a Mac because it ran the design programs I needed for college.  Hey, at least I can say I had to have a computer when I was in college the first time.  I wasn’t quite the slate and chalk generation.Anyway, back to Safari.  I really am liking it.  It doesn’t have all the “bells and whistles” that my firefox had but the speed is fabulous and that might be the deciding factor.  I’m all about getting what I want when I want it.

Gainfully employed, yep that’s me!

Instead of starting my new job on the 22nd of the month, I’m starting my new job TOMORROW! As in less than 24 hours from now. I was totally unprepared for that, but okay.I have a ton of stuff planned out for today:

  • clean out the fridge
  • clean off my desk (it’s horrendous)
  • bake yet another loaf of bread
  • inventory the freezer
  • inventory my pantry
  •  polish our dining room table
  • hoover
  • steam clean the carpeting in the living room
  • finish moving my ritual supplies to the new cabinet
  • make egg salad for dinner (too hot to cook)

So, as you can see I have high ideals! How much of that will get done today, I have no idea, but I’ll give it my best try. I usually don’t start in on “chores” until about 2pm. T works till 4am, so we try to keep the house quiet till about that time. Plus, I’m just not a morning person at all and I usually don’t get moving till about that time. Hence, why I never have a class before 10am…I consider that early morning! On the broken ear front, it’s stopped hurting and now just itches. A good sign I think? The drops still bug the crap out of me, but they seem to be working somewhat. I have to go get my BP checked tomorrow…I’m supposed to get it checked weekly till the end of the month, blech. I have no idea? Apparently, they were not happy with my last one when I went in the other day. Oh well, it could be worse.I’m about 12″ inches into the “faux-Weasley” sweater. I’ve now remembered why I hate knitting sweaters, they are bloody boring. But, I’m soldiering on with it. I love the sweater pattern, so we will see. Now, I’m off to get dressed and go out to have lunch out! Naturally, there will be some KIP! I’m not ashamed, my yarn can see the light of day! Muahahaha**okay, so the whole list isn’t done yet, but at least I made a dent in it.  Can’t help it, P came home early today and it’s impossible to clean when someone else is around.  He’s off to Eastern Washington again next week, so I’ll steam then.**

Getting back into the swing of it

Yay, the ear is improving to the point that painkillers are not needed!  Yippee!  I just don’t see how drug addicts do it.  I just can’t function through a fog covered world?

Today, was yet another loaf of bread, we seem to be going through one a day (they are small).  Tonight’s dinner was chicken with rice and a cheesy sauce, au gratin potatoes and corn.  T baked brownies for dinner.

Tomorrow, I have to hang out waiting on P’s laptop to be delivered.  Such fun.  I guess I can clean out the fridge while I’m waiting.  It needs a good scrubbing, blech.  How a thing like a fridge gets so dirty is beyond me.  Ours just attracts spills and such in it, it’s a dirt magnet.  Plus, I need to hoover the back of it, it’s been almost a year since we moved in and it needs it’s yearly hoovering on it’s coils.

I also have tea to make tomorrow.  We have three types: sweet tea, unsweet tea and chai tea.  All three of us like a different type of tea, hence the three types.  We have these handy dandy spigot type containers that are slim and square to hold most of our liquids.  We have three for the different teas and one for milk.  Saves on space that’s for sure.  I think once I get the fridge cleaned out, I’m going to put some plastic bins on the shelves to hold stuff.  We keep having stuff move to the rear and take residence! LOL.

I tried the plastic bin trick before and it worked lovely.  You simply buy the plastic bins that are like large shoe boxes and put them in the fridge on the shelves.  You put stuff in the bins, that way you can slide the bin out and see what’s available.  I also need to try and order new brackets for our fridge shelves.  The ones that came with the fridge were broken so we really can’t use the door shelves which actually is quite a bit of space.

Not sure what’s for dinner tomorrow, but I’m sure I’ll figure something out.  I’m trying to clear out our pantry and freezer, so far so good.
